Exposomics Takes Center Stage at AAAS 2026 Annual Meeting

This year's AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston featured a landmark symposium on integrating exposomics into precision medicine. Researchers from seven institutions presented findings on how cumulative environmental exposures shape disease trajectories from early life through adulthood — with exposome.cloud datasets powering three of the five featured analyses. The panel underscored a growing consensus: the exposome must sit alongside the genome in clinical risk models.

Researcher Spotlight
Dr. Thomas Hartung
Dr. Thomas Hartung
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Dr. Hartung is a leading voice in toxicology and environmental health, best known for championing the "3Rs" (Replace, Reduce, Refine) in animal testing and for developing human-relevant testing strategies. His current work focuses on applying exposomics frameworks to assess combined chemical exposures using advanced in vitro systems and computational toxicology.
Fun fact: Dr. Hartung has authored over 800 publications and holds honorary doctorates on three continents — and still makes time to teach an introductory toxicology seminar every spring.

The Chemical Mixture Problem: Why Single-Substance Limits Are Failing Us
Guests Dr. Russ Hauser (Harvard) and Dr. Luz Claudio (Mount Sinai) discuss the science and policy gap between how we regulate chemicals individually versus how people are actually exposed — in complex, lifelong mixtures that interact in ways no single toxicity study can capture.
